The Art and Science of Skin: Building a Balanced Brown
A Live Virtual Course by Dr. Zuri Dale, Scientist, Researcher and Cosmetic Formulator
Most permanent makeup education tells you what to do. This course teaches you why it works.
ABOUT THIS COURSE
The Art and Science of Skin: Building a Balanced Brown is a live virtual course built on the principle that every color decision at the chair is a scientific variable. When you understand what each pigment does, how melanin interacts with color at heal, and how to read a client's skin before you touch anything, you stop guessing and start building formulas with intention.
This is not a brand tutorial. This is not a product demo. This is a clinical framework you can apply to any pigment line, for any client, in any service.
DATE AND FORMAT
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
- Identify the role of each pigment in a brow formula and make deliberate decisions about when to reach for it
- Build a balanced anchor mix from first principles using any pigment line
- Apply the Fitzpatrick scale, including the 2023 Skin Color and Ethnicity subdivisions for types IV and V, to inform every formula decision
- Select and adjust formulas based on undertone, desired result, skin condition, and pigment chemistry
- Predict healed results before you deposit, including how iron oxide oxidation, melanin absorption, and organic pigment fade affect color at heal
- Understand the difference between inorganic, organic, and blend formulas and how each behaves at heal
- Recognize and address the conditions that cause grey healed results before they happen
- Adjust formulas for touch-up sessions based on what survived the heal, not just what was originally applied
WHO THIS COURSE IS FOR
This course is designed for licensed permanent makeup artists who are ready to move beyond guessing and start making deliberate, science-backed color decisions at the chair. It is appropriate for artists at every experience level. Whether you have been working for one year or fifteen, if you have ever looked at a healed result and wondered why it did not match what you mixed, this course was built for you.
WHAT MAKES THIS DIFFERENT
Dr. Zuri Dale is an epidemiologist, researcher, and cosmetic formulator. She is the founder of Sensationless, a professional topical anesthetic formulated specifically for PMU artists. The framework taught in this course is built on skin science, pigment chemistry, and clinical methodology. It incorporates the 2023 updated Fitzpatrick classification published in Dermatologic Surgery, iron oxide oxidation science, and organic pigment fade behavior.
You will leave this session with a system, not a recipe. The difference is that a recipe only works when the ingredients are the same. A system works every time.
